Secretary Desk

Well, I found this little secretary desk, in all it's 1970's brown laminate color.  But it was just begging to come home with me.  It was just so cute and I had a vision...so what can I say...here she is in the driveway, I forgot to get a picture before I took off all her battered up knobs and pulls.

So after deciding what color...Lord that is the hardest part...the color!  But I had found the awesome yellow that I painted my bookcase a few months back and I really thought the two would go nicely together....first a coat of black and then the yellow...a little distressing that really doesn't show up too well in this picture..but I honestly love how it turned out.  And it will be for sale at the Antique picks and Crafty Chicks event in November.  Oh..unless I decide it should stay right here with me!

Have a darned good week!

Getting ready for Christmas

Well, I know it is kind of early for some, but I am making signs today.  This is one of my favorites.  I make the door and add the rusty hinges ... barn doors are in short supply so I make my own.

Are you ready for an Olde Time Christmas?  I really am!

Junkstock 2013

I just had to post a picture of one of the things I made for Junkstock this year.  An old ironing board that I was lucky enough to find.  Bought some letters and attached them, along with some hooks and it turned out great!  It sold right away and the nice lady that bought it just loves it!

I just wouldn't mind doing laundry if I got to look at this every time!

Custom Table

Soo...at our Junk Stock booth in the summer.  A really neat couple came by and wanted to buy one of my door turned coffee tables.  Except that it was just sitting there waiting for the Junk Hunks to come by and take it to the new owner.

I offer to make another table for them, and although the tables are always one of a kind and you never know exactly what it will look like when it is done, they decided to take a chance and had me make a table for them.

It took a little while for me to find the exact right table to do the trick...but here it is...all done!

I hope it is love at first sight when they come to pick her up!

Chicken Wire Cloche

Oh..well you  know my sister Kayla is so talented.  She can decorate like nobodies business!  And on very little money too...she is the Garage Sale Queen and gets the best deals ever!  I wish we lived closer so we could garage sale together!  Anyway I digress..LOL.  She sent me some pictures out of a magazine that she has...Oh..that's another thing she has more magazines than Carter has little pills!  I love to go to her house...it is gigantic by the way...and sit and read her magazines and get cool ideas.

So...she sent me this picture of a chicken wire cloche..and you know I have chickens and wire and chicken wire too.  And this morning when I went to feed the horses well there was this roll of chicken wire and I just HAD to try it...there I was at Dark Thirty sitting out there just playing with Chicken Wire and the horses were not very happy that I was AGAIN distracted before feeding them breakfast..sorry girls!

Here it is...my version of a Chicken Wire Cloche....with a little birdie tucked safely away inside.

Signs ~

Well, it has been a very hectic week to say the least.  And I just have only been home a little bit and I am not too happy about that!

I just had time to finish a couple signs and wanted to share them with you.

I love this one:

And I really love this one :)  I added a couple old rusty nails to hang a few things if I want.

Remember, I think it is always fun to  "Junk" up the place! Have a good one!

Up-Cycled Bookcase

Well, I finally finished this project and I could not be happier with how it turned out! I was just a plain old bookcase, probably from the 70's. The veneer top had some issues, so I figured I would just pull it off...yeah right, well half-right.

I just figured rather than fight with it, I would replace the top. I had some boards that came off of a plant pallet from work, and they were just what I needed to fix this baby up! I put them on the top and John(my husband)went to work with the belt sander. Then I used a wiping stain on it and then a few little home-grown secrets and a hand rubbed finish. It turned out great. I can't tell you what color it is, just a $1. can of paint from the "oops" pile. But I love the color.

So know the 70's bookcase kinda looks like an 1870's bookcase!

Purple Bird Feeder

Gosh dang..it is so hot today...and my shop is a metal building so you can just imagine:) Anyway, I have been out there since early this morning  painting and washing and building and yes..cleaning...not so you'd notice I guess.

One of the things I am working on is a book case and I can't wait til I am done with it to show you, but it isn't today..LOL.  I did finish another Bird Feeder.  Purple.  I love it, but it is gone already.  It will be feeding birds in some other yard.

Stay cool...and Junk On!!

Rock on..

Wow, I found this old wicker rocker last week.  It just has such an interesting shape um..but someone had cut the seat out of it.  I was going to sell it but I had some flowers here that I had rescued from the used flower store..LOL..not really..but they were mistreated and sickly so I saved them.  I guess the point here is that they are not as bright as I would bring home if I had my choice but they are all I had.  So after giving them a seat in the chair, I decided the chair has a home too.

Maybe next year some paint, I'll keep you informed!

End of Year

Well..not the real end of year, but end of the year at the garden center.  I rescued these plants from the garden center at work.  They were passed over and really looking kind of puny. I just don't like it when they get ignored and left to end up in the dumpster. So about two weeks ago a friend gave me this basket and I gave this mismatch of plants a home.  Some Geraniums and some Gazania, Cosmos, Super Bells and all colors.

I like them just the way they are! Don't be afraid to mix up those left overs...more often than not, you can make something just as good or better than you will find in an already made-up basket!

This Bike was my husband's Dad's bike. It isn't an antique, but it had so much character.  I decided to plant the basket with flowers, and then decided it needed another little something.  So my friend Lynelle gave me a basket that fit perfectly on the bike above the pedals.

I planted it and put it over by the chicken coop and wired it to the fence, but I couldn't see it from the house, so this morning I moved it to the front of my shop.  It needs a few more weeks of "growing" but I like it there :)

Get Your Kicks

The other day I was in the store and I saw this fabric.  It is so colorful and I decided that I would take it home and use it to make a pillow.  So the repurposing part is that I covered a pillow that I got from a garage sale.  I am really picky about the pillows that I buy to recover, but it is so much cheaper than buying a pillow form and you end up with a lot of interesting shapes!

Since I just started this blog, I am going to let you know that I am just continuing my original blog and moving it here:)  www.whimzyacres.com has lots of my other repurposed things for you to see! Go on over and take a look!  Be patient while I get this thing up and going!  Thanks  ;)

Headboard turned garden bench

So I found this headboard the other day and what a steal I got it for ten bucks!!  I wasn't really sure what to do with it but it came to me that it should be in a garden.  I didn't want it just stuck in the mud in the garden and then....I decided what I wanted...so I asked John, my husband if he would help.  I told him what I wanted it to look like.  "Just do this, and this..and this to it okay?"  And he started working on it and since he is  a structural steel guy...it will now hold an army...LOL.  But I love it and it was the first thing to sell at the Shopkeeper and Friends show a few weeks ago.

I really like the way it turned out!  Thanks dear :)
